alexander_kaminskyAlexander Kaminsky received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Florida and a Master of Music degree from Indiana University. In addition to being active as an adjudicator, Mr. Kaminsky is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States. He is currently Director of Bands at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and most recently completed a highly successful tenure at Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Florida. He previously served as Director of Bands at Lincoln, Auburndale, and Cocoa Beach High School. Bands under his direction consistently earn Superior ratings at all levels of evaluation. Mr. Kaminsky has earned Superior ratings at the State Concert Band Assessment for the last 21 consecutive years. For 11 of those years, including the last 9 consecutive years, Kaminsky has had two bands earn Superior ratings at State, and in 2009, he became the only director in the history of the Florida Bandmasters Association to have three concert bands earn straight Superior ratings at State. Mr. Kaminsky’s bands have performed at prestigious state and national festivals and conferences including the Midwest Clinic (2005, 2009 and 2014), American Bandmasters Association National Convention (2014), CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference (2004 and 2014), FMEA State Conference (2014), National Concert Band Festival (2002 and 2012), and the National Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall (2009). His bands have been under the baton of notable guest conductors including Richard Clary, Col. Michael Colburn, Ray Cramer, Gary Green, Col. Larry Lang, Timothy Mahr, and David Waybright, to name a few. Marching bands under Kaminsky’s direction consistently place in the Florida Marching Band State Championship Finals, and have won FMBC State Championships three of the last five years. Most recently, his band was a 2016 BOA Super Regional Finalist and was named the 2017 FMBC State Champion. His bands have also performed abroad in France, Italy, and Monaco.

Mr. Kaminsky is an eight-time recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence and has been recognized with numerous achievement awards for education including the Florida Bandmasters Association’s Oliver Hobbs and Andrew J. Crew Awards, National Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teacher, Nobel Educator of Distinction, Teacher of the Year, and is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Kaminsky has been featured in several periodicals including The Instrumentalist, School Band & Orchestra Magazine’s “50 Directors Who Make A Difference” and Home Magazine’s “12 Exceptional Educators.”

Mr. Kaminsky is an elected member of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association and the American School Band Directors’ Association. He is a National Board Certified Teacher, FBA Supervising Adjudicator, and has served on the FBA Executive Board as FBA District Chairman. While serving on the FBA Music Performance Assessment Committee, Mr. Kaminsky revised the FBA marching and concert adjudication sheets to include grading rubrics. Kaminsky currently serves on several state and national committees including the FBA Classification Committee, ABA Sousa/Ostwald Award Committee and the ABA School Bands Task Force. His professional affiliations include the National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, Florida Music Education Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa Psi. In addition to his music education activities, Mr. Kaminsky is a deacon and Sunday School teacher and attends Parkridge Church where his family is actively involved in ministry.
