Matt Winans

Instructor/Designer

Mr. Winans relocated to Pembroke Pines in 2005 after receiving two bachelor’s degrees in communications and dance from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport. Since 2005 he has been an integral part of the Flanagan High School Faculty in various administrative roles and as a designer & instructor for the marching band and color guard program. Mr. Winans recently accepted the position of Student Assessment Specialist at Stoneman Douglas High School. He has performed with elite programs such as the Rochester Patriots Independent World Winter Guard, Empire Statesmen Drum Corps, and the Cadets Drum Corps.  While attending Brockport, he studied dance under the Limon Dance Company, as well as the world-renowned Bill Evans.  
Mr. Winans color guard design and instruction has received top honors at the local, state, and national level. While at Flanagan High School they were a 15-time Scholastic World Class finalist at WGI World championships, Gold Medalist in 2008 & 2012, Silver Medalist in 2013 & 2015, Bronze Medalist 2009 & 2011, as well as the undefeated South Florida Winter guard Association for 14 years at the program. During this time, he also was a designer for Onyx Independent World Guard for 3 years in which the program won Gold Medal in 2013, Silver Medal in 2014, and Bronze Medal in 2015. Mr. Winans contribution to the outdoor marching arts activity has also been extensive including: color guard staff for The Cadets World Class Drum Corps from 2005-2007; Color guard caption head and designer for the Boston Crusaders World Class Drum Corps from 2008-2012; Color guard designer for the Empire Statesmen Drum Corps 2002-2004, 2010 & 2011. Throughout his career he has continued to provide unique and quality designs for programs across the United States and Canada.
